Staff Analysis of the Legislation

SB 176 revises  Code Section 17-6-11 of the O.C.G.A. so that when a person is apprehended by a police officer for certain traffic violations, he or she can display their driver's license and be issued a citation instead of being brought before a judge, incarcerated, or ordered to post a bond. If the person who is issued the citation fails to appear for court, the clerk of the court must provide proper notice to the person to reschedule the court appearance before any bench warrant can ultimately be issued for their arrest.
